Editorial

The communication in our education system is one-sided. The teacher is like a priest teaching a choir. The student should pay all attention to the subject being taught; accept the teaching as a gospel and commit the teaching to the memory. A good student, in our setup, is one who doesnot ask unnecessary questions (forget uncomfortable questions), treats the subject being taught as dogma, and remains intellectually submissive to all elders. We, at the Nav Prerna School, think that education should be more like an informal conversation. The fundamentals should be understood but need not be committed to the memory. We believe that ability to ask pertinent questions, ability to think and form opinion, and ability to communicate are more important than rote learning. Therefore, we have dedicated this issue of school magazine to students’ opinion. We asked you about what you thought were most important problems in Sikar, Rajasthan, and India. We asked your opinion of Indian culture, Indian traditions, sports, and many other things. A substantial portion of this issue is focused on your opinion.

We did not have enough time to collect your articles or write about all the events we conducted this year. Since it is the first issue, the logistics have consumed a lot of our time. Hopefully, next issue will have more of writing from you.

Many of you would be graduating from Nav Prerna School to pursue higher studies or to join public schools such as Sainik Schools, Military Schools, Navodaya School, among others. We wish you luck with hope that you will continue working with the enthusiasm, interest, and hard work that has characterized your stay at Nav Prerna School. For those who continue to the study at school and those who are going to be new members of our family in 2008, we have as much responsibility as you. We promise that we will strive to achieve newer heights together.

From parents we hope that you will continue to support us as you have done in the past. As you are aware we are a no-frills school with excellent academic standards. The excellent academic and extra curricular record has been possible because of your love and support. We would want to thank you once again with hope that you will continue to be with us.

If there is an advice we would like to give to anyone who reads this magazine, it is just going to be one. Inculcate a habit of reading books. You would learn more from reading an excellent book than a whole lifetime of school or college learning. And while you are at it, try writing your ideas. You will get a hang of your own ideas and your written expression will not lack clarity. Communication is going to be one of the most important skills in your future career and it is a good idea to have a head start.

 17.1 Q: What is a FAQ?

A:  FAQ is an acronym for "frequently asked questions." Here we list down the answers to the commonly asked questions by most guardians and students.

17.2 Q: How can I visit (reach) Nav Prerna School?

A: Nav Prerna School is located in Sikar, Rajasthan. Sikar is very well connected with road and railway links with the rest of India. After you reach the Sikar Railway Station or the Roadways Bus Stand, ask the auto rickshaw to take you to the Truck Union. Truck Union is located on Nawalgarh Road. You should get down a minute prior to reaching Truck Union. Trick is to request the driver to drop you at convenient location for the school. It takes, on an average, 15-20 minutes to reach the School from the Roadways Bus-stand and it takes 10-15 minutes to reach the school from the Railway Station.

Sikar has regular bus and train service from Delhi and Jaipur.

It lies on Jaipur Pilani road route and has excellent bus connectivity to Jaipur and other places in Rajasthan.

17.3 Q: What is the admission process?

A: The admission in school takes place only during the time specified by Board of Secondary Education Rajasthan. That is during 16 April to 15 July. It is advised to take admissions in specified time as admissions are subjected to availability of seats.

17.4 Q: Do you prepare students for admissions to Sainik schools/ Military schools and other public schools such as the RIMC?

A: Yes, Nav Prerna School is a feeder institution for admission to these schools. Sainik Schools, Military Schools, the RIMC, and other defense schools such as Army schools have been established by the Indian government to prepare students to join Indian defense forces. We believe that by preparing our students to join these institutions, we help in defense of our  motherland.
